Tupper Lake - The Adirondack Watershed
Alliance hosted the Tupper Lake 9 – Miler on Saturday, June 16, 2012 on Simond Pond in Tupper Lake. The event was a New York Marathon Canoe and Kayak Racing Association Points Race. Paddlers from all over New York State, kayak clubs in Rochester and Montreal and participants from as far away as Maryland turned up for a beautiful day on the water.
Over 100 paddlers competed on the 9 mile course that took paddlers across Simond Pond up the Raquette River to the Oxbow and around the River to the Route 30 bridge before turning left and back to the finish line.
Race organizers would like to thank the Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce, The Town of Tupper Lake and the Adirondack Amateur Radio Association in making the event a success.
The Tupper Lake 9 Miler is part of a series of paddle sport events organized by The Adirondack Watershed Alliance (AWA) based in Lake Clear, New York. The AWA was formed to assure the continued promotion and organization of paddle sport activities, develop a stewardship network to enhance recreational opportunities and provide outdoor employment. The AWA coordinates the Adirondack Canoe and Kayak Series, including the
Adirondack Canoe Classic, offers clinics and trips and encourages cooperation between all recreational users of the waterways of the Adirondack Forest
Preserve.
