Adirondack Watershed Alliance (AWA) offers Stock Wenonah Kevlar canoe demos and clinics at NYMCRA races
Have friends or acquaintances you would like to introduce to canoe racing?  Want to see more paddlers at events?  New York Marathon Canoe Race Association (NYMCRA), the Adirondack Watershed Alliance and Wenonah Canoes have teamed up to make it easier to get people in Kevlar boats this season.  We will collaborate on a series of paddling clinics and novice paddler canoe demonstrations at several paddle sport events across New York State this season.
The New York Marathon Canoe Racing Association (NYMCRA) promotes canoe and kayak events across the Empire State.   NYMCRA hosts a series of points races for competitive canoe and kayak paddlers from April to October.  Race classes are determined by the design of the craft, age and sex of the participants.    The Stock class is designed to encourage participation by people who want to own one boat they can use for both back country travel and racing against similar types of craft.  Go to www.nymcra.org  for a calendar of events and class specifications.
The Adirondack Watershed Alliance (AWA) organizes several paddle sport events including the Adirondack Canoe Classic – The 90 Miler from Old Forge to Saranac Lake.   To introduce more potential paddlers to the sport, AWA has purchased a fleet of solo, tandem and 4-person canoes and will bring them to more than a dozen events on the NYMCRA calendar this season.  Demos and clinics are free.  AWA members will be able to rent a Kevlar canoe to race in at one of the NYMCRA points series events on an advanced reservation basis.  Rental is $25 per seat per event.   Annual AWA membership is $25.  Reservations for a boat can be made by email macscanoe@gmail.com or by phone 518 891 2744.
The first event of the series will be the ‘Round the Mountain Canoe Race in Saranac Lake.  There will be demos and sprint format races at the finish line on Lake Flower in Saranac Lake.
In addition to the schedule of events below, AWA program director Brian McDonnell will be coordinating with area paddling groups to schedule other demo events.  We will work with event organizers in advance to promote clinics and canoe availability.   Our goal is to put as many people in a Kevlar canoe as we can to expose them to the fun and camaraderie of canoe and kayak racing.  To host or sponsor a clinic contact Brian McDonnell.
Wenonah has been constructing state of the art performance canoes for recreation and racing for over 50 years.   Their Kevlar lay – up offers lightweight durability and their innovative designs have made them the industry standard for speed, stability and responsiveness.   For more info on the many models available visit www.wenonah.com
